FIRST CLUB ON INTERNET IN THE DISTRICT

 

ACTIVITIES OF THE YEAR

2004-2005

JULY On 15th June, the incoming team attended schooling at Ludhiana.

The Installation ceremony of our team took place on 4th July, 2004, at Hotel Solitaire. Lion Rajive Jain as president and his board of directors for the year 2004-05 was duly installed by Lion Janak Gupta, Past District Governor. Dr N.K.Grover, Past Multiple Council Chairman was the Chief Guest and Lion Satish Bagrodia, Past Multiple Council Chairman was the Guest of Honour on this evening. Region Chairperson Lion Renu Bali and Lion guests from other clubs also graced the function. The function was attended by 44 lion members with their families.

On this occasion Lion Bagrodia released the Membership Directory for this year. 

At the same function, books & stationery items for the school children of Lions Bal Vidya Mandir were distributed.

After the installation the team visited the Old Age Home, in Sector 15 on 7th July and distributed the fruit among the residents. On this occasion Region Chairperson, Lion Renu Bali and the office bearers of other clubs were also present.

A free eye checkup camp was organized on 25th July, 2004 at Government High School, Colony No 4, Industrial Area, Phase-I, Chandigarh. More than 200 patients were examined and were given free medicines for eye ailments. 12 patients were also screened for IOL cataract surgery. These patients will get operated during the Free Eye Operation Camp scheduled to be held on 2nd October at Satsang Bhawan, Sector 26, Chandigarh. There will be series of such eye camps in the near future. The next camp will be in Kumhar Colony, Sector 25 on 29th August.

 AUGUST Lion Rajive Jain unfurled the national flag on 58th Independence Day at Old Age Home along with the students of Lions Bal Vidya Mandir and residents of Old Age Home.

A sports meet was organized for the residents of Old age home and the students of Lions Bal Vidya Mandir. Everyone participated enthusiastically in the function.

The Lion members, ladies and children planted ten fruit and ornamental trees saplings in the premises of Old Age Home.

The second free eye checkup camp was organized on 22nd August, 2004 at Government High School, Sector 25, Chandigarh. Dr J.Singh examined more than 200 patients and they were given free medicines for eye ailments.

Lion Vineet Oswal member of our club was on his official visit as Zone Chairman on 28th August, 2004 at Hotel Sun Park.

SEPTEMBER The Teacher Day was celebrated on 5th September at Lake Club. Mrs Rajesh Choudhary, District Education Officer, UT, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest on that day.

Five new members Mr Ram Kumar Garg, Rajesh Saidha, Dinesh Kakkar, Ravi Kant and Arun Goel were inducted by Lion MJF Satish Bagrodia.

Lion Renu Bali was on her official visit as Region Chairperson on 25th September, 2004 at Hotel Sun Park.

A Blood Donation Camp was organised on 26th September, 2004 at Jain Sathanak, Sector 18-D, Chandigarh in association with Mahavir Yuvak Mandal. 85 units of blood were collected with the help of Blood Bank, GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh. Lion Vijesh Sachdeva, Vinod Choudhery, Dr Mandeep Bansal, Rajive Jain were among the donors.

OCTOBER

Our permanent project – 34th Free Eye Operation Camp was started on 3rd October, 2004 at Satsang Bhawan, Sector 26, Chandigarh. This camp was inaugurated by Sh Pawan Bansal, MP, Chandigarh by lighting a lamp, the symbol of light. On this occasion Dr Sunandan Sood, Head of the Ophthalmology Department, GMCH, Chandigarh, Lion Renu Bali, Region Chairperson, Presidents of other Lions Clubs and more than 20 members of our club were present. Lion Rajive Jain welcomes the guests and the patients. Dr Sood spoke about the need of the care of eyes. Sh Pawan Bansal ji appreciated the work done by the club in last 20 years and stressed upon the need to share the responsibility by an individual to make the government programmes more effective and beneficial for everyone. He took a round of the camp and met the patients.

Earlier, the people started gathering at the venue before 7'o clock in the morning and waiting for their turn to get their eyes checkup. A team of ten persons including Eye specialist doctors and paramedical staff from GMCH came to check up more than 400 patients. Out of these 90 patients were found to have cataract and needed surgery. Then these patients undergone for tests for Blood Pressure, Sugar etc. 9 patients were found not fit for surgery and they were discharged. These patients were transported to GMCH for the operation. The operations continued for four days. The patients and their attendants were given free meal for all these days. The patients were discharged after operation and were given medicines for post-operation care. The patients were again checkedup after 3-4 days. Lion President and his team members were present for all the days in the hospital to look after the patients.

Our club presented a mobile phone with a connection to EYE BANK, GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh to keep 24 hrs contacts for the eye donation. The regular monthly bill will also be borne by the club.
